Fresh from lowering interest rates for the first time in almost five years, the Reserve Bank will soon get more figures to help determine if a second cut is on the way. Inflation data for the month of January is expected to show a slight uptick when released on Wednesday. Commonwealth Bank economists have forecast monthly inflation to rise from 2.5 per cent to 2.7 per cent in January, within the target band of two to three per cent outlined by the Reserve Bank.

China’s navy has reportedly conducted a second live-fire exercise in international waters, a day after a similar drill forced multiple airlines to change flight paths between Australian and New Zealand. New Zealand navy personnel advised live rounds were fired from a Chinese warship in international waters near the island nation on Saturday.
