GARRETT — The Garrett Common Council Tuesday adopted an ordinance to redefine the city’s four election districts. The current ordinance was adopted Jan. 15, 2013 and has not been repealed since that date. Following three separate votes, council members Brian Best, Bobby Diederich and Toby Jordan unanimously introduced, passed and suspended the rules to adopt the ordinance in time for the June 30 deadline, as required by state law.

GARRETT — Five retiring employees were recognized during Garrett-Keyser-Butler School District’s annual pride day held May 27 in the middle school cafeteria. Each honoree was presented with a personalized gift and a lifetime pass to Railroader sporting events. They include instructors Doug Klopfenstein, Jim Petre and Stephanie Rhoades and bus drivers Gary Crabill and Dennis Sutton. They represent more than 100 years of service to the district.

GARRETT — Garrett High School seniors were recognized for organizational and athletic leadership during the annual awards program held May 22 in the Paul Bateman gym. • SAT math awards for those scoring 600 or higher: John Faylor, Aliyah Delacruz, Adam Burns and David Kueber. • SAT English club awards for those scoring 600 or higher: Jonah Wells, John Faylor, Tyler Vogel, Layla Simmons, Mahlan Dircksen, Apollo Slaughter, Camdyn Woods, Evan York, Aliyah Delacruz, Adam Burns and Dayne Colgan.

GARRETT — The City of Garrett has signed a proposal with BCS Management to fill the duties of a city planner following the resignation of Vivian Likes earlier this year, the Board of Works confirmed at its June 3 meeting. Lana Beregszazi, CEO of BCS Management, reported Mike Myers will be on staff least two days a week in the planning department at City Hall to sign permits and answer other inquiries. Beregszazi will attend Garrett Redevelopment Commission and other city meetings as needed.

GARRETT — Several Garrett High School seniors were recognized for athletic achievement and at the annual awards program held May 22 in the Paul Bateman gym. Prestigious Carson Culler senior athletic awards were presented to Nate Wells and Chloe Harter. Wells was also a 10-letter honor ring recipient.
