Indivisible Central Michigan has been protesting potential cuts to healthcare by President Donald Trump’s administration but are turning the page to show support of other services that could be on the chopping block. “Literacy and Justice for All” will take place at Mt. Pleasant Town Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, where members of the local chapter of Indivisible will gather to read a variety of books.

Mt. Pleasant city commissioners on Monday put the wheels in motion to help the village of Lake Isabella by providing limited police protection. Commissioners approved allowing Police Chief Paul Lauria to work with the city’s legal counsel to create a contract that would give the village one Mt. Pleasant police officer to patrol Lake Isabella on targeted dates and times this summer.

As visitors roamed the south pavilion at Island Park during last Thursday’s Mt. Pleasant Farmers Market, students in the Gratiot-Isabella Technical Center’s culinary arts program created samples of roasted rhubarb barbecue sauce with mini meatballs. Standing behind tables loaded with various pantry ingredients, along with fresh asparagus and rhubarb, the students also made roasted asparagus herb ricotta crostini.

Residents of Lake Isabella could soon benefit from limited, dedicated road patrol provided by the city of Mt. Pleasant. Mt. Pleasant city commissioners are set to discuss at Monday night’s regular meeting allowing Police Chief Paul Lauria to work with the city’s attorney to draft a contract with the village of Lake Isabella to provide limited police services. If commissioners give Lauria the OK and a contract is drafted, it will be brought back to them for further discussion.
