KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Thursday handed down death sentence to a man and life imprisonment to his accomplice for killing two clerics associated with a banned outfit in a targeted attack at a seminary in the Gulshan-i-Iqbal area. In 2016, Iqra Darul Atfal seminary administrator Mufti Ghulam Akbar and his guest Mufti Kamran Hussain were shot by two unidentified men, along with their accomplices, at the seminary in Gulshan Block 6.

KARACHI: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) informed an anti-terrorism court on Tuesday that Armaghan, the prime suspect in the Mustafa Amir’s murder case, had been operating seven straw (benami) accounts, maintained through his employees. A straw account — a bank account held by someone other than the beneficial owner — is considered a benami transaction and is prohibited under the Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Act, 2017.

KARACHI: A judicial magistrate on Friday remanded in police custody an underage car driver, who hit and killed a couple on Sharea Faisal two days ago. The investigating officer (IO), Syed Shujhat Haider, brought Muhammad Aneeq Imam before Judicial Magistrate (East) Khalique Zaman. KARACHI/ ISLAMABAD: While a judicial magistrate on Friday dismissed the post-arrest bail plea of journalist Farhan Mallick in a case related to alleged anti-state content on his YouTube channel, another granted bail to journalist Waheed Murad following his judicial remand in a case registered under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (Peca). The “bail [application of Farhan Mallick] is dismissed,” Judicial Magistrate (East) Yusra Ashfaq pronounced in a verdict reserved a day earlier.
