Global energy investment is set to hit a record $3.3 trillion (£2.4 trillion) this year, driven by a surge in clean energy spending, despite ongoing geopolitical tensions and economic uncertainty. According to the latest IEA World Energy Investment report, clean technologies — renewables, nuclear, grids, storage, low-emission fuels, efficiency and electrification — are on track to attract $2.2 trillion this year. The GMB union has called out Octopus Energy for what it says are potentially unlawful changes to workers contracts. Climate Action Network (CAN) Europe is warning that governments must urgently tackle this issue in their upcoming National Building Renovation Plans (NBRPs), due by the end of 2025. These plans, it says, must go beyond winter heating and focus on protecting vulnerable households from extreme summer temperatures.
