PRAYAGRAJ, India—A celebration of ritual bathing at India’s largest Hindu religious festival turned into a scene of carnage as a crowd early Wednesday trampled over sleeping pilgrims, according to witnesses and advisers to the festival. About 10 people are believed to be dead, and a few dozen injured, according to a person familiar with the matter.
