One person is in custody after a shooting in North Port on Thursday night. According to the North Port Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 8000 block of Rocliff Avenue around 9:30 p.m. about a shooting victim. A suspect who is familiar to the victim is in custody. NPPD has not said if there were any injuries. The police department states they will release more information when appropriate.

Cape Coral firefighters helped rescue an alligator from a storm drain Saturday morning. According to the Cape Coral Fire Department, someone spotted the 10-foot-6 gator stuck along 2857 NW 27th St.Crews helped a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission trapper remove the gator. They used the brush truck's winch to lift the lid off the drain and then helped load the gator onto the truck. Photos show the animal's head peeking out from the storm drain embedded in the grass.

The Lee County School District emailed parents Tuesday after President Trump's executive order overturned a directive requiring special protection against ICE agents in schools. Under an executive order signed by President Donald Trump, Immigration and Customs Enforcement Officers can now enforce its policies in what were once "protected" areas. This means ICE agents can once again arrest people in schools, churches, hospitals, and shelters.
