INTRODUCTION Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a prevalent viral opportunistic infection in immunocompromised hosts, including cancer patients.1 In healthy, immunocompetent individuals, primary CMV infection may be asymptomatic or present as a nonspecific febrile illness or an infectious mononucleosis-like syndrome characterized by fever, lymphadenopathy, and lymphocytosis.
