Susan Carlson Bynum joined OU-Tulsa as Vice President of the OU-Tulsa campus on January 8, 2024. In this role Bynum leads strategic initiatives for OU-Tulsa to sustain the campus’ promising trajectory. Her areas of focus include community engagement and outreach, donor and alumni relations, strategic planning as well as support for all OU-Tulsa programs including the OU Polytechnic Institute.

Veryl “Susan” Phillips Bynum, of Helenwood, passed away on Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at Big South Fork Medical Center in Oneida. She was 87. LifeBorn January 31, 1936, Susan was the daughter of Luther and Zena Reed Phillips. She was a member of Helenwood Baptist Church. She was a social worker for the State of Mississippi for many years before moving to Tampa, Fla. She and two of her sisters owned and operated an assisted living facility for over 20 years while living there.
