    Frances Freyberg of Menlo Park spent a year traveling around the world. Her photographs of nature, wildlife, architecture, and people from more than 70 countries are on view throughout the month of May at The Portola Art Gallery in Menlo Park. Highlights include temples of Japan, Hong Kong, and Cambodia; domes of different shapes and sizes, from the Taj Mahal in India to the Mir-i-Arab Madrassa in Uzbekistan; and atmospheric ruins from Tintern Abbey in Wales to Teotihuacan in Mexico.

    In celebration of International Compost Awareness Week, the City of San Mateo invites residents to dig into sustainability at a free Compost Awareness & Giveaway Event on Sat. May 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Phoenix Garden (222 Paul Scannell Drive, San Mateo).     Public service hours for the Civil, Probate, Family Law, and Records Management divisions will be reduced effective Oct. 7, 2024 as the San Mateo County Superior Court continues to adapt to the impacts of state budget cuts. Public service hours in Room A at the Hall of Justice Courthouse for the Civil, Probate, Family Law, and Records Management divisions will be cut back to 8:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Mon. – Fri. beginning Oct. 7, with exceptions made for ex parte matters only.
