We need to talk about sex. Or at least the version of sex that our young people are devouring online. Sex where it is ‘normal’ for a man to choke a woman to the verge of her passing out. Sex where violence, including rape, is considered acceptable behaviour. Sex where young women boast about having group sex, preferably in front of a camera. Shocking? Certainly, but for many of our young people, perhaps the majority, this is how they perceive sexual relationships.

My mother Mary aged around 13 (1951). She had to leave school at 15; was sent to work as a maid on an Ayrshire farm, then got a job in a Stranraer chemist shop. Married my father at 16 and I was born exactly 9 months to the day after their wedding. By 17 her life was decided. https://t.co/Y359Rb7MDk

My mother Mary died this morning. In her bed with her dog by her side. A resilient, clever woman who because of her class and her sex never realised her potential, but she made sure I got the education she didn’t. Even if I did make a hash off it when I was young. 💔
