Celebrate the year of the Snake in Canada’s oldest Chinatown presented by the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association! Main event starts at the Gates of Harmonious Interest, featuring an 8 lion performance by the Wong Sheung Kung Fu Club, dragon dance by the Victoria Chinese Public School, and traditional Chinese dances.

Saturday in the sunshine was a busy day for sure. Along with checking out the Moss Street Market and learning all about mushrooms and a walk by the water, we popped by and supported the 5th Garry Oak Vents as they sold Krispy Kreme donuts at the Oak Bay Pharmasave, Foul Bay Save-on-Foods and Fairfield Thrifty Foods.

It’s that time of year when everyone is slowly getting back up to speed with events which means The Zone Ranger has an opportunity to look around and be a bit of a “tourist” in our home town!This past weekend took the time to visit Carr House. Carr House is the restored historic site of the birthplace and childhood home of famed writer and artist Emily Carr. You can tour the house, attend a workshop and even rent it out for a private event!

The annual Fishermen Helping Kids with Cancer Herring sale was on Saturday January 11. Gates opened at 7:00am and they were SOLD OUT of herring by 9am! Check out our Instagram reel!100% of money raised goes to BC Children’s Hospital and the entire event is run on volunteers and donations. The teams at Finest at Sea and Fishermen Helping Kids With Cancer did an amazing job again this year with this event!

Today I say good bye to my Tink. She was guarded, sassy, and always had very clear boundaries.. never really a snuggler but she was brave, curious, loved a good snowfall, and always the first to check on you if something seemed off. I will miss her so very much.
Plus just to add to my joy today - I witnessed grown ass adults act like bullies while trying to demonstrate their support for an event that is all about inclusiveness. Time for bed and to start fresh in the morning.
