We worship at another church on the Island when we are here, but we were curious about all of the discussions concerning Awaken planting a church. We thought we would see for ourselves so in late April we attended their worship service held at the Community Center. We found them to be a diverse group of people who welcomed us without question, worshiped Jesus sincerely, prayed from their hearts and shared a biblical message of hope. It was an inspiring evening.

The June 5 headline got it right: “Corrections officer accused of misconduct with inmate” (The Columbian, June 23). In the body of the article, “The female inmate initially denied any inappropriate contact … then admitted she had consensual sexual contact …” Is it possible for an inmate to have consensual sexual contact with a Spokane County Detention Services corrections officer while incarcerated? Seems like the power imbalance renders this an impossibility.
