Health officials in Hood River County, Ore., are investigating three cases of a rare and fatal brain disease known as Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. Two people have died and a third person is showing symptoms consistent with the disease. The disease has been confirmed in one of the deceased through an autopsy; the other two cases are considered probable, according to a statement from the Hood River County Health Department. LOS ANGELES — Gray whales are dying in large numbers, again. At least 70 whales have perished since the start of the year in the shallow, protected lagoons of Mexico's Baja California peninsula where the animals have congregated for eons to calf, nurse and breed, said Steven Swartz, a marine scientist who has studied gray whales since 1977. And only five mother-calf pairs were identified in Laguna San Ignacio, where most of the wintering whales tend to congregate, Swartz said.

USDA finally added the #H5N1 #BirdFlu infected herds I'd heard about (2 weeks ago) to its list, bringing CA's total to 754; 983 across 17 states. Meanwhile domestic cats are getting pummeled -- APHIS' list shows last 10 entries were all cats. https://t.co/xNeitY8u0W

FWIW, signs of #H5N1 #BirdFlu in CA's wastewater is pretty sporadic and low. So, even though I've been told there are 5 more presumptive #H5N1 #BirdFlu dairy herds in CA (total=753), things don't seem as hot as they did a month or two ago. https://t.co/GGMojTjre9
