    Barack Obama has taken on Donald Trump and publicly backed Harvard after the president froze the university’s funding. Mr Obama praised the Ivy League institution for setting an “example” by refusing to bow to the president’s demands to end diversity efforts or forego billions in federal funding. The US department of education froze more than $2.2 billion of Harvard’s funding on Monday, hours after it rejected Mr Trump’s demands, warning it was an attempt at “government regulation”.

    There is a “good chance” of the US agreeing a “great” trade deal with Britain because Donald Trump “loves” the UK, JD Vance said. Reaching a trade agreement with the UK is a priority because Mr Trump has a deep “cultural affinity” with Britain and “loved” the late Queen, his vice-president said. “The president really loves the United Kingdom. He loved the Queen. He admires and loves the King. It is a very important relationship,” Mr Vance said.
