My Israel story starts with my memory of the UN voting for the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948. As a young girl, I sat around our dining table with my brother and parents listening to our radio. When Australia voted in favour of Israel’s independence my mother burst into tears of joy. I was just 11 years old and didn’t really understand the enormity of the vote.
