LG Energy Solution has completed the construction of an expanded battery plant at its campus in Holland, Michigan. The $1.4 billion expansion is for lithium iron phosphate batteries for energy storage systems, but EVs stand to benefit from them in one interesting way. They have several rumored names, including Model 2, Model Q and even Model A. None of those names are confirmed. Tesla sales are plunging across the world. General Motors' battery research and development team is exploring solid-state and sodium-ion batteries. Its Wallace Battery Cell Innovation center in Michigan allows it to develop and test new chemistries and cells all in-house. The automaker is actively working on seven different anode and cathode chemistries. General Motors is working on multiple next-generation battery technologies to address the most pressing concerns regarding electric vehicle range, charging performance, and cost.
