Ella Tofaeono’s return to her birthplace has been a long time coming. The dynamic Tall Ferns centre, known for her big personality and big presence on court, hasn’t set foot in New Zealand since she was eight years old. Born in Auckland 27 years ago, Tofaeono left when she was six months old to be raised by an aunt and uncle in Sydney. Despite her Australian roots, she’s only ever wanted to represent New Zealand in basketball; now she’s realising her dream.

She works alongside netball archivist and statistician Todd Miller, together trawling through the thousands of newspaper clippings, tournament programmes and photos, and hundreds of ageing video tapes and dog-eared scrapbooks – all holding priceless insights into the sport they love.
