This is mostly Mourvedre with 10% Carignan and 2% Alicante Bouschet. Purple/ruby in color, mostly opaque and bright. The nose is nice with black cherries, slight cherries, a bit of anise and spice. With air, there does seem to be some Brett on this in the form of Band-Aid. Full bodied. Firm tannins. On the palate, flavors of black cherries along with a touch of Ban-Aid. Long finish. Overall, the Brett does not dominate and not an issue (depending on sensitivity).

Purple/ruby in color, opaque and bright. The nose is nice with dust, black raspberries, black olives and spice. Lovely texture. Full bodied. Medium tannins. On the palate, raspberries, black raspberries, some char and a really interesting "sourdough bread" note. Some warmth on the finish. This is drinking well but should still improve with good cellaring. It is great on its own and will works with many foods.

Deep garnet in color, mostly clear and bright. The nose is earthy with some "merde" notes along with cherries and black cherries. Full bodied. Medium tannins. On the palate, black cherries with some earthiness. A bit drying on the finish. Great energy and balance. This is about at peak but should offer up five to ten more years of top drinking. This is great on its own, but better with food. This would be great with cassoulet or a vegetarian bean based cassoulet.

2019 Sine Qua Non Syrah Distenta I, USA, California, Wine Review Current Price: Yes, this is young and will improve. But you know what? Some days you just want your wine to do the talking. This perfect after one of those days. Inky purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose has black raspberries, black pepper, roasted meats and roasted herbs. Full bodied. High energy. Great balance. Firm tannins. On the palate, this is deep and delicious. Black raspberries, char and black pepper.

One of my favorite white wines from anywhere! This is a blend of 53% Grenache Blanc, 29% Roussanne, 15% Chenin Blanc and 3% Chardonnay from Paso Robles. Yellow gold in color, clear and bright. The nose is big. Notes of pears, apples, citrus, beeswax, spice and minerality. Also a slight almond note. Full bodied. Light tannins. Great acidity. On the palate, this has a great texture. Delicious. Deep and complex. Flavors of apples, citrus, beeswax, spice and char. Long finish.

100% whole cluster. This is a cooler climate Syrah, still showing California sunshine, but a more deep notes and less exuberance than many from Napa or Paso Robles. Purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose is nice with boysenberries, char, black olives, white pepper and some spice. Medium to full bodied. On the palate, this has a nice texture. Medium tannins. Good acidity. Flavors of black raspberries with some black pepper and char. Long finish.

This is a blend of 60% Syrah, 20% Mourvèdre, 12% Petite Sirah, and 8% Grenache from various vineyards on the west side of Paso Robles. This was a huge wine in its youth and now, at age 16, while still a big wine, it shows some signs of coming together more. Saxum wines have always concealed their high alcohol very well and this one is no different. The label lists 15.6% abv but there is no noticeable alcohol on the nose of palate. Inky purple in color, opaque and bright.

This is a blend of blend of 38% Chardonnay, 25% Viognier, 22% Roussanne, 6% Petit Manseng and 9% Muscat and lists 15.2% abv on the label. Light golden in color, clear and bright. The nose is big and deep with almonds, orange peel, grapefruit, char, spice, and slight beeswax. Full bodied. Light tannins. Nice balance. On the palate, despite the prominence of Chardonnay, the Rhone varietals seem to dominate with the Chard giving the wine a bit of rounding.

This is 100% Syrah from San Louis Obispo county in California. Purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose is enticing with black raspberries, black cherries, black olives, black pepper, slight char and spice. Full bodied. Medium to firm tannins. Great tension and energy. On the palate, this is delicious with flavors of black raspberries, black pepper, black cherries, slight spice and char. This is deep and complex but still very youthful. Long finish.

This is 100% Marsanne from the northern Rhone Valley in France. Golden in color, clear and bright. The nose is great. Earthy (think freshly tilled garden) with wax, slight quince, and almonds. Full bodied. Slightly oily texture. On the palate, waxy with great minerality and slight bitter almond note on the finish. Delicious. This is nice on its own but even better with food. It went well with vegetarian Spring Rolls. Drink over the next five to eight years.
