ADHD can have a major effect on students’ ability to learn in a traditional classroom setting, according to UNC Asheville professor of psychology Evelyn Chiang. “ADHD impacts what’s called your executive functioning which is the part of your brain at the very front where we make a lot of our decisions,” said Garrett Noid, Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate also diagnosed with ADHD.

November is American Indian Heritage month. Some students, like Lumbee tribe member Chrisoula Theodorou, feel like UNC Asheville can do more for their Native student population. “There needs to be an increased value of representation among indigenous students, and saying that as an indigenous student hurts and it’s very discouraging to be in my education,” Theodorou said.

Pumpkin decorating brings mass communication majors and minors together

The second annual mass communication pumpkin decorating event kicked off Oct. 19 on the third floor of Karpen Hall, with several majors and minors in attendance. Students doodled and adorned their plump orange and off-white fruits with different stickers and drawings to create imaginative jack-o’-lanterns for Halloween. The smaller pumpkins were donated by local plant nursery B.B. Barnes, with the larger pumpkins coming from a nearby Ingles.
