An analysis of the contradictions that lie between official records and the ground realities in the handloom sector in the Mau region in Uttar Pradesh is presented. Data from various government websites and reports, responses by applying the Right to Information Act, as well as primary fieldwork in the region are used to throw light on the challenges faced by the handloom sector in the Mau region.
