The Government has decided to proscribe the group Palestine Action – saying the UK would not tolerate those who put national security at risk. The Home Secretary Yvette Cooper cited a “long history of unacceptable criminal damage” with members showing “willingness to use violence”. The group say they will seek a legal challenge – describing the move as “unhinged” – while police made 13 arrests during clashes at a protest supporting Palestine Action in central London.

A man who attacked officers outside a south Wales police station – while armed with Molotov cocktails, has been jailed for life. Alexander Dighton stabbed one officer and knocked another unconscious, after trying to set fire to a police van during the attack in Rhondda Cynon Taf. The court heard that his sister had reported him to the counter-extremism Prevent programme a year earlier – but he was not considered to be a threat.

Two police officers have gone on trial after they used pepper spray and a Taser on a 92-year-old care home resident who had one leg. The officers were responding to a call from the care home in St-Leonards on Sea in East Sussex, after Donald Burgess threatened staff with a knife. Prosecutors claim the officers used “unjustified and unlawful” force against the pensioner. Warning: this report contains distressing images.

The TV personality Jackie Adedeji spoke exclusively about the “traumatising” investigation into a police officer she accused of initiating sexual acts on duty. The same officer had also been found guilty of gross misconduct in 2024 for attempting to initiate a romantic relationship with a teenager he had been deployed to assist.
