Miami Dade College (MDC) announced the launch of the Miami Startup Ecosystem Internship Program, supported by a $1 million grant from the Blackstone Charitable Foundation and JPMorganChase. The program will offer students paid, hands-on learning experiences at tech startups and scalable small businesses. Over the next two years, the program will place at least 200 students in internships.

In 2014, three Ohio colleges set out to improve access and success outcomes for low-income students by adapting the City University of New York’s (CUNY) innovative Accelerated Study in Associate Programs (ASAP). A new report from MDRC looks at the eight-year findings from the ASAP Ohio programs. ASAP provides an array of supports to students, including intensive advising, special classes, tuition waivers and assistance with transportation and other basic needs.

In Massachusetts, a $100,000 grant to Mount Wachusett Community College (MWCC) from the George I. Alden Trust will support expanding the college’s Automotive Technology Center. Specifically, the funds will go toward he first phase of a three-part expansion. During this phase, MWCC will install two modular classrooms, adding 2,000 square feet of instructional space. Demand has grown in the automotive technology program, driven, in part, by MWCC’s electric vehicle (EV) courses.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — In 2014, a community scan conducted by Harper College revealed that people in Harper’s service area didn’t feel connected to the college. Community members expressed that they only heard from Harper when the college needed something. That feedback spurred Harper to create a community relations program and a community relations manager position.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — In 2016, the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) launched the Pathways Project, which presented a model that was outcomes-focused rather than access-oriented. Nine years later, the Community College Research Center (CCRC) has taken a new look at that original Pathways framework and research and is presenting a “framework for moving forward,” according to Hana Lahr, CCRC’s assistant director of research and the director of applied learning.
