Exegesis (5)As already explained in the lexical analysis, العَقْدُ signifies الوَلَايَةُ عَلَى البَلَدِ that is, the governance, rule and authority of a land. Similarly, it also signifies البَيْعَةُ لِلْوُلَاةِ, meaning pledging of allegiance to rulers and caliphs.

It is considered one of the biggest mosque structures in the world, with a capacity of around 40,000 worshippers. In order to be visible from a distance, an artificial hill 9.5 metres high was created for the mosque to stand on, with landscaping to prevent sand erosion.

© ShutterstockIn the Holy Qur’an the Holy Prophet Muhammad (sa) has been declared the ‘Chief of all the Prophets’ and his ummah [nation] as the best ummah. The greatest demand of this high status and office is the service of mankind. The Holy Qur’an saysكُنتُمۡ خَيۡرَ أُمَّةٍ أُخۡرِجَتۡ لِلنَّاسِ ‘You are the best people raised for the good of mankind.’ (3:111) Thus, by serving humanity, Muslims can truly prove themselves to be the best ummah.
