Brazil's Chamber of Foreign Trade approved on Sept. 18 an increase in import taxes for 29 chemical products and rejected requests for adjustments on 33 more at rates suggested by the sector. "The 29 products had rates ranging from 7.2% to 12.6%, which will be increased to 12.6% to 20% for a period of 12 months," the Chamber said.

The global acetyls market remains stable amid weak, mostly downstream demand, according to Celanese President and CEO Lori Ryerkerk. Not registered? "It is stable for construction, paints and coatings, specifically that sector at a very low rate," Ryerkerk said during the company's second-quarter earnings call. Celanese's cellulose acetate tow business is also stable, she added.
