There was a photo on a jump page in Wednesday’s newspaper that accompanied a story about former Daily Sentinel publisher, Ken Johnson, who died Sunday at the age of 92. The photo featured Johnson along with some fire officials and “other” Sentinel employees, meeting following the April 9, 1974, fire that destroyed the Sentinel’s printing press. In this 51-year-old color photo is a man, off to the side, wearing in a yellow dress shirt and tie. His name was Elvin E.

Spring is definitely living up to its name this year, bouncing all across the weather gamut. Earlier this week, it was warm and sunny, followed by wind, followed by dark and gloomy, followed by rain, followed by chilly, followed by … you’re following me, right? The weather may be unpredictable, but thankfully we can plan on a 100% chance of a “Sonrise” on Sunday morning.

I have one of those little robot vacuums I can control with either my phone or a remote. I bought it as a solution to the dust bunnies that gather on a regular basis in the corners and along the floorboards. My plan was to run it once a week while I multi-tasked with other household projects, programming it to meander through the kitchen, dining/living room and along the walls.

“Spring is a symphony of nature.” Never mind how the chaotic wind and blowing snow earlier this week sounded like a 3-year old in the percussion section. “Spring is a blank canvas.” I’m pretty sure my proverbial canvas blew a few streets over, along with most of the junk pile I had put out for pickup. “Spring is a blanket of warmth.” I’m thinking about putting the fluffy one back on the bed. “Spring is a burst of sunshine.” More like a micro-burst.

This form of junk-pile rubbernecking is key to ascertaining if curbside junk is trash or treasure. Raise your hand if you’ve ever “rescued” treasure from a junk pile. Guilty!A few years ago I rescued a — well, I’m not sure what it was — but, I crafted a beautiful, three-level fairy garden out of it complete with a pond, a fence, a whimsical fairy house and a sitting area for the fairies.
