I like the song It’s Your Thing, by the Isley Brothers, not least of all because it is my belief that it captures a kind of ontological position that I also hold on sexual autonomy. I struggle to listen to new music. I like a lot of music already. I would be able to cycle through what I’ve already heard and know I like for the rest of my life, and pass so much time before a repeat I’d never tire of a single song. However, I would love to be a pioneer on the frontier of the New Shit, keeping a finger on the pulse of the rhythm of the world. But I don’t. Listening to new music makes me nervous. It’s not like I never listen to new things.
