By Tara Murray Melbourne Knights legend Ivan Franjic has stepped down as coach of the National Premier League club. The Knights announced on Monday that Franjic had handed in his resignation and the club had accepted it. Franjic stepped in as player-coach last season before retiring from playing at this level and focusing just on coaching. Franjic had returned to the club as a player after his international and A-League career ended.

The Redbacks entered the vital clash with the Cats at 1-2 after losses to perennial finalists, Diggers Rest and Wallan. It was defence that set the tone for the Redbacks on Saturday against the Cats in the 10.9 (69)-4.5 (29) win. Redbacks coach Nathan Blair said the match was a crucial one for them. “It’s a lot better being 2-2 than 1-3,” he said.

Nothing went the Pacers way early in the season with the Easter break coming at the perfect time to reset. The Pacers have won both their matches since to get back to level pegging. Pacers coach Des Radoslovic is a lot happier now with where they are sitting. “We should have been 2-2 early on as we had the upper hand in a couple of the early games,” he said.
