Takeaway: The Cervélo Caledonia-5 expertly blends race bike-inspired looks with endurance bike handling and geometry. It’s perfect for riders seeking an all-road bike with a slightly more upright position that doesn’t sacrifice aerodynamics. Cervélo’s addition of downtube storage to the latest Caledonia adds to the bike’s long ride credentials.

Stopping for a red light in town a couple of weeks ago, I experienced the panic many riders new to using clipless pedals feel—being unable to unclip your foot from your pedal and toppling over. While I came close to an embarrassing fall, I luckily didn’t hit the pavement. But the near-miss bruised my ego a little. Learning to ride clipless pedals is a rite of passage for cyclists. However, this was far from my first time riding clipless; I’ve ridden with them for over 30 years.

You sit atop your saddle for dozens, if not hundreds, of miles each week with only a thin layer of Lycra and a chamois pad separating it from your body’s most sensitive and intimate regions. While the right saddle might not make your ride great, a seat that is only slightly wrong for you can quickly ruin an otherwise perfect bike ride.

SRAM’s latest Zipp wheels are great for a certain type of rider. Simultaneously, a subset of cyclists will hate certain aspects of these new wheels with fiery passion. The new 353 NSW and 303 SW wheels combine aerodynamics, rolling resistance, tubeless tech, and wireless connectivity into a complete package. I tested the new Zipp 303 SW wheels for three weeks. As far as road wheels go, they are completely suitable. They’re certainly not bad by any means, but they also didn’t seriously wow me.
