Oklahoma softball is now up to four players who have entered their transfer portal in the few days since its season came to an end. The first announcement came on Tuesday when freshman Corri Hicks announced on X that she’s looking to transfer to another school. Cydney Sanders didn’t have any bitter feelings after watching her career come to a close in walk off fashion in the Women’s College World Series semifinals. The Sooners’ senior first baseman had been a part of a lot of winning in her three seasons with the program. Against Texas Tech on Monday night, the seemingly indestructible Sooners were close to pulling off another thrilling comeback only for it to be ripped away on a walk off by Texas Tech in the bottom of the seventh inning.

In many ways, Oklahoma’s heartbreaking loss to Texas Tech in the Women’s College World Series semifinals seemed more like the beginning to a story than an end to one. The Sooners may have come up just short of earning a spot in the championship series, but it’s hard to imagine this group won’t have more opportunities. They had just eight returners from last year’s national championship run, the last of a historic four-peat, and 14 newcomers were expected to immediately take over that mantle.
