Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the administration has attempted to balance two competing objectives: maximizing economic pressure on Russia while minimizing disruptions to global energy markets.

#Moldova is now at the forefront of an energy crisis following the cessation of #Russiangas #transit through #Ukraine on January 1, 2025. I made this research for the Center on Global Energy Policy back in 2023 when it was already clear that this Europe’s poorest country faces enormous energy security challenges. Obviously, the recent halt in Russian gas supplies to Moldova and its breakaway region, #Transnistria, has dramatically escalated situation.
