An early draft of Glynn County School System's proposed new fiscal year budget reflects an increase of $13 million. The draft of the fiscal year 2026 budget, which begins July 1, shows an increase from $184.1 million to $197.1 million.

Sabbe is the executive director of Forward Brunswick, a nonprofit dedicated to beautification and improving the quality of life in the city. It's in the process of constructing a housing complex in the neighborhood at the former site of a New Town school in the 2400 block of Reynolds Street.

SkillsUSA is a national organization focusing on technical education and skills development. In May 2024, the city signed a contract with Coastal Greenery. Before that, Public Works Director Garrow Alberson said the city had been spending a lot of money on overtime to employees to maintain the cemeteries.
GICCA students commit to local employers at signing day

Students at the Golden Isles College and Career Academy signed letters of intent on Tuesday. They weren't committing to play sports but to teams of a different kind - local trade employers. At GICCA's signing day event, Principal Joseph Depenhart quoted Mike Rowe, former host of the TV show "Dirty Jobs," which highlighted blue-collar jobs and the workers who do them: "In a very general way, our society has fallen out of love with the skilled trades.
City commissioners to consider cemetery upkeep contract

Brunswick City Commissioners will meet on Wednesday to consider, among other things, moving forward with a year-long, $131,160 private landscaping contract to maintain Greenwood and Palmetto cemeteries. State prison labor details had maintained the cemeteries until city officials took issue with using prison labor. The city shifted to using a combination of prison labor and city staffers, Public Works Director Garrow Alberson told City Hall's finance committee last week.
