SHELBYVILLE — School board members, new and returning, were sworn in during a snowy Shelby County public school board meeting. Judge Harrod swore in Sarah Reed, Brenda Jackson and Sonya Blackburn while friends, family, and community members observed. Board member Joanna Freels was elected and chosen as chair of the school board, and Andrew Cline was elected and chosen as vice chair. Reed, the newest board member, joined the board for the first time during the meeting.

Lisby recommends going with another person to ensure safety and parking under lights for visibility when out holiday shopping.

SHELBYVILLE — It has been time to look at report cards for schools in the Shelby County district. In the span of two meetings, principals, parents and staff from every Shelby County Public School met before the board to discuss academic scores. Each year, students from every grade participate in the Kentucky summative assessment exam to measure their growth in various subjects. Students are graded on a scare ranking from lowest to highest: novice, apprentice, proficient, and distinguished.

SIMPSONVILLE- Residents may see updated police vehicles on the roads in the next few years. Representatives from Enterprise Fleet Management told the Simpsonville City Council about how a partnership with the company could save money for the municipality. “We do everything from acquiring vehicles up to the moment we sell the vehicle for you,” said Kate Hayden, account executive with Enterprise Fleet Management.

SHELBYVILLE — On Wednesday morning, Nov.13, law enforcement officials from various agencies quickly surrounded four schools in Shelby County. After police dispatch received a call from a suicide hotline reporting they were in communication with an individual threatening suicide and bodily harm toward SCHS students, law enforcement and school officials jumped into action. At the end of the day, nothing was found after detailed searches.
