Sandwich Cares highlighted the work of WE CAN, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering and supporting women during a meeting on Tuesday, April 15. WE CAN’s mission is to “empower and support Cape Cod women to build pathways to stability and self-sufficiency,” said outreach and volunteer manager Sunny Fellman. Sandwich Cares chairwoman Lana Atamian said that she invited Ms. Fellman to speak because WE CAN offers a variety of services that are beneficial for women in recovery from substance abuse.

Approximately 12 community members attended Town Meeting 101 held on Wednesday, April 16. Town Moderator Sean P. Rausch decided to hold the event at the Center For Active Living to give community members a chance to learn the ins and outs of how Town Meeting operates and get any questions answered before Monday, May 5. Town Manager George H. (Bud) Dunham, Town Clerk Taylor D. White and finance committee vice chairwoman Crystal J. Smith were also on hand to answer any questions.

The water district will hold its annual meeting and election during the week of Monday, May 19. The annual meeting will be held on Monday, May 19, at 7:30 PM at the district office located on Tupper Road. The election will be held on Tuesday, May 20, between noon and 8 PM at the district office.

Eighth-grade student Macy J. Christensen has been selected as the Project 351 ambassador of the year. Project 351 is a statewide organization dedicated to building unity and leadership through youth-led service projects. “It empowers eighth graders to make a change in their community and to get the skills to lead and change our world,” Macy said.

The Sandwich Select Board voted to officiate the town’s purchase of 86.5 acres of undeveloped land on Discover Hill Road and Kiah’s Way. The town intends to use the land for wastewater infrastructure. Town Manager George H. (Bud) Dunham said that if everything goes as planned, the sale was expected to close on Wednesday; however, by late Thursday, the sale had not closed.
