BLUEFIELD, W.Va. (WVVA) - According to a press release from FEMA, four Disaster Recovery Centers in West Virginia will permanently close soon. DRCs in Logan, Mercer, McDowell (Welch) and Wayne will halt operation in the coming days. At 6pm tomorrow the centers in Welch and Fort Gray will close permanently. On Saturday the operations in Logan and Princeton will shutter. Princeton will close at 2pm and Logan 3pm. Four centers will remain open, but no longer hold weekend hours.

MAHAN, W.Va. (WVVA) - According to the West Virginia Division of Transportation all northbound lanes and one southbound lane are now back open on the West Virginia Turnpike following an early morning tractor trailer crash. The accident caused the Turnpike to shut down for several hours. The release says around midnight a tractor trailer heading north rolled over at mile marker 66 near Mahan, spiling heavy plastic pipe into the southbound lanes.

ABINGDON, Va. (WVVA) - Locals are joining in on a nationwide trend, holding town halls without their representatives. Some citizens in Virginia’s 9th district say that their concerns are not being heard by their congressman, the long serving Morgan Griffith, and invited him to the area to hear their feelings on current issues. Though Griffith did not attend, speakers took turns speaking on concerns shared by those in the audience.

Coal has been the controversial life-blood of our region and lawmakers on both sides of the state line are applauding President Trump on his recent executive orders . The orders aim to expand coal production through taking older plants out of retirement, EPA exemptions, federal land use and more. Both of West Virginia’s Senators were present for the signings and boast their approval of the measures.

THE TWO VIRGINIAS (WVVA) - Residents in the Two Virginias are becoming victim to a new wave of scams. The Tazewell County Sheriff’s Department is warning residents about scams going around involving Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) cards. Officers say they have received several reports of people having their EBT cards compromised. Reports are showing unauthorized transactions being made out of the area, and some victims have had the entire amount withdrawn from their account.
