Sam Ayers has been an integral part of the Bigfork cross-country team since he moved to the school district in his freshman year. His positive attitude has helped him overcome obstacles, including bouncing back from surgery to correct his chest cavity. Ayers grew up in Seeley Lake, but his family made the move to Bigfork to give him more opportunities after graduation. He needed help with math and his speech, and his mother heard Bigfork’s special education team was excellent.

May 20—Plowing the Going-to-the-Sun Road in Glacier National Park is no easy task, but a drop off in avalanches this spring has made the work a little easier. Crews observed a large avalanche cycle in early March this year, which cleared the chutes that typically slide later in the spring. That has translated into fewer avalanches this season as compared to last year, said Work Leader Christian Tranel. There's been no notable challenges so far this year, he said.

Loon Lake 4-H Camp is a hidden gem to many, but manager Jill Kahanek wants to introduce the picturesque spot in Ferndale to others as they continue to renovate for their 4-H campers and summer guests. It was a beautiful spring day at Loon Lake recently, where Kahanek and her husband were mowing and tidying up camp. It’s been more than two years since she took the job as camp manager, bringing years of nonprofit experience to the role.

A lawsuit filed against the Lakeside County Water and Sewer District alleges the public was not given adequate notice before the board approved construction of a new wastewater treatment facility and service for a proposed resort development. Watchdog group Citizens For a Better Flathead and district ratepayer Bruce Young filed the suit in Flathead County District Court on April 16.
