    KALAMTH RIVER, Cal – A group of local, indigenous youth are among the first to paddle the restored Klamath River from its source to the sea in over 100 years. The youth are making a 300-mile journey from the headwaters to the ocean. It’s a celebration of the river finally returning to its free-flowing state, having recently been undammed. School is out this week for Peterson Elementary, but not before a couple of teachers got slimed. The “sliming” was a reward for students who successfully raised $10,000 for their school.     ASHLAND, Ore. – The Ashland Library branch is set for an artistic upgrade. Jackson County Library Services is currently looking for a stained glass artist to create a new piece for the building. JCLS says the artwork will be placed in the entryway stairwell to welcome guests, and the design should represent pride and inclusivity in library spaces. Artists will have a $25,000 budget to work with. The submission deadline is July 1. For more information, contact the Ashland branch.

    SISKIYOU COUNTY, Cal. – Siskiyou County students can earn free ride tickets to the upcoming fair, just by reading. The Siskiyou County Library is teaming up with the Siskiyou Golden Fair for a special reading program happening now through August 10. Students are encouraged to read for 20 days before the deadline. The days don’t need to be consecutive. Kindergarten through fourth grade students should read 20 minutes a day, while those in grades five through eight need to read 30 minutes a day.
