BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - Spring storms are making a mess of yards, roads, and homes, bringing down trees by the dozens in our area. Homeowners and tree service crews are working to remove and cut what they can after another night of heavy rain and wind. The threat of storms is gone for now but the cleanup work continues for several, including for those whose homes were affected by storms over the weekend.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - We’re On Your Side with an update on mail collection boxes at a North Jefferson County post office. It’s been months since people have been able to drop off mail without going inside Gardendale’s post office, and it’s been seven months since we were told the post office had received new boxes and were waiting on locks and keys, yet neighbors are still unable to drop their mail off there, and their frustration is only increasing.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. (WBRC) - As the potential for severe weather Tuesday lingers, many are still working to clean up limbs left from this weekend’s storms. EMA crews in both Tuscaloosa and Jefferson County are cleaning up damage from the storms and helping each other. Leaders say getting as much done now will pay off in the long run. “Honestly, one of our bigger weekends we’ve had in awhile,” said Chris Nicholson, the director of Roads and Transportation for Jefferson County.

VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. (WBRC) - You’ll soon have a safer way to cross Highway 31 in Vestavia Hillsas crews began delivering and installing a pedestrian bridge on Thursday and Friday. Vestavia Hills City Manager Jeff Downes says work is continuing with no issues. The project will connect the east and west sides of Vestavia Hills, and some neighbors there say once the project is complete, it’s going to benefit them in a big way.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - A recent Miles College graduate is in critical condition after suffering an injury on a celebratory trip in the Bahamas. Hannah Smith graduated on May 4 from Miles College, and was injured Monday during an excursion while their cruise ship was docked in the Bahamas. Smith was life-flighted Wednesday from the Bahamas to Miami, Florida, and within an hour of arriving was rushed into surgery.
