You might reckon Milwaukee is historically a polka kind of town, but a new trend is rolling like a tumbleweed across the city, from Riverwest to the shores of Bay View, from Oconomowoc to Wild West Allis. That’s right, country line-dancing is shuffling across the area like a grape vine. There seems to be a dispute on how many hoedowns this town can handle, though. Paul Robbins, creator of Robbins’ Roundup, a “honky tonk takeover,” is of the strong opinion that there is plenty of room.

Kenosha horror filmmaker Danny Villanueva Jr.’s first feature-length film, I Dream of a Psychopomp (2021), was an anthology of horror stories related to the spirit world. He’s followed that up with last year’s What Happened to Dorothy Bell?, a found-footage paranormal horror film that made a Wisconsin premiere this week at the Milwaukee Film Festival. The cast includes Michael Hargrove (2021’s Candyman), Lisa Wilcox (A Nightmare on Elm Street 4 and 5), and the debut of Asya Meadows.

Howell Ave. Horror themed events have been on the rise in the Milwaukee area and the latest entry is this new convention specializing in the genre, Milwaukee Horror Con, runs three days with a slate of horror actors like Michael Hargrove (Candyman), Felissa Rose (Terrifier, Sleepaway Camp), Alex Vincent (Child’s Play), among others.
