The Los Alamitos High softball team held off a late rally by Santa Margarita for a 7-6 win in the CIF-SS Division 2 semifinals on Saturday at Los Alamitos High. The win put the Griffins in the championship game against JSerra, at 7 p.m. on Friday at Deanna Manning Stadium, at Colonel Bill Barber Marine Corps Memorial Park, in Irvine. The Griffins led 7-1 until the top of the sixth inning, when the Eagles pushed across four runs, sparked by a lead-off home run.

After making a run to the CIF-SS Division 1 baseball quarterfinals the Los Alamitos High Griffins saw their playoff run come to an end with a bloop single to right field that gave the Santa Margarita Eagles a walk-off 5-4 win to send the Eagles to the semifinals. Junior Warren Gravely chipped a ball over first base that landed just inside the foul line and pinch runner Aramis Perez came around from second base to score the winning run.

The Kennedy High boys volleyball team made enough plays when they had to, and held off Esperanza in a tight match, 23-25, 27-25, 25-20, 26-24, to capture the CIF-SS Division 5 Championship on Saturday at Cerritos College. It was the second title for the program after the Fighting Irish won their first title in 2017. After letting a late lead slip away in the first set, the Irish settled down and swept the next three, needing extra points in two sets to close it out.

Diane Dixon, California State Assembly member for the 72nd District, joined the Seal Beach Rotary for its monthly luncheon on April 15, at Old Ranch Country Club. Dixon shared some updates on bills she has authored, and on projects she with which she is involved. One of the ones she has been working on hits close to home for Seal Beach and other coastal cities. The problem with river trash washing down stream and washing ashore on the beach.

Los Alamitos High track and field team members had some strong efforts at the Arcadia Invitational over the weekend, a meet that draws athletes from around the country and is known for the place national records are set. Devin Bragg won the boys 200 meter dash in the seeded race. Bragg jumped out to a fast start and had the lead by the end of the turn. He turned on the speed down the stretch, and pulled away by several feet by the time he crossed the finish line at 21.11 seconds.
