They have announced a 10 year strategic collaboration with UPS to modernize the package delivery company’s IT infrastructure. Some regional expansion, a new PoP, some FTTH, and some quantum network security:Zayo says it is investing $90M into network infrastructure in Tennessee. They plan to update their network backbone throughout the state, preparing for the expansion of AI workloads in the region. Zayo Education, which evolved from their acquisition of Education Networks of America is headquartered in Nashville, and Zayo’s footprint currently connects 94% of the state’s school districts.

A few items from around the world to keep up with:DE-CIX has expanded its IX footprint into Brazil for the first time. They have launched DE-CIX Sao Paulo, which touches Elea Data Centers SPO1, Ascenty SP4, and Equinix SP4. And they have launched DE-CIX Rio de Janeiro, which touches Elea Data Centers RJO1 and Equinix RJ2. The two will be interconnected from the start, enabling both local and domestic peering. GTT picked up a managed services deal in the hospitality sector.

Four interesting projects to catch up with, two in Europe and two in Latin America. EXA and Ultranet are teaming up for some new fiber in northern Italy. The two will be constructing a 175km diverse fiber route from Milan to Genoa. On the Genoa end the infrastructure will connect all existing cable landing stations, while Milan is the country’s biggest technology hub. Ultranet operates some 12,000km of fiber across Italy, while EXA’s reach extends throughout Europe and across the Atlantic.

A couple contract wins and two bits of expansion news from around the globe this week:Nokia has picked up a customer in the French Caribbean territories. Canal+ Telecom will be deploying Nokia’s Lightspan and Altiplano solutions as it rolls out FTTX capabilities in French Guiana and Guadeloupe. The technology will give them a path to 24G PON when the time comes. Cologix has a new tenant at its TOR3 location in Toronto, Canada.

With MWC underway over in Barcelona, there is lots of partnership news out there as well as plenty of vendor announcements:Verizon Business has announced a strategic partnership with Accenture. The two will be working together on cybersecurity for businesses of all aiszes, starting with new SaaS capabilities related to Identity and Access Management, Managed Extended Detection and Response, and cyber risk. From there they hope to co-innovate other new solutions.

Five significant buildouts and upgrades to note from metros around the US:I’m not sure how I managed to miss this one, but last week Lightpath expanded its footprint into a whole new geographic area. They are building out a new 230-route-mile metro fiber network in Phoenix AZ. The expansion will feature multi-conduit systems connecting 8 data center campuses and carrier hotel locations, with another 30+ nearby.

Three vendor wins, an IX, and a new data center project:Zayo and Infinera have been busy testing the latest DWDM gear. They have trialed Infinera’s ICE7 technology on Zayo’s fiber between Sacramento and Salt Lake City, achieving a 1Tbps, single 150GHz wave over 1,391km. That will give Zayo as much as 32Tbps of C-Band capacity, with another 32Tbps from L-Band later on. Nokia’s pending purchase of Infinera is expected to close at the end of next week.

Two subsea cable projects, a wireless infrastructure upgrade, and an AI expansion:The far north will be getting a new subsea cable system. Space Norway has signed a deal with SubCom to build the Arctic Way Cable System, which will connect the Norwegian mainland with Jan Mayen in the North Atlantic and the Svalbard Archipelago. Svalbard sits at the intersection of the North Atlantic, Arctic Ocean, and the Barents Sea at a latitude of about 78 degrees.

Five data center infrastructure projects, four from North America and one from the Middle East. STACK Infrastructure says it will be building another data center campus in northern Virginia. The plans call for 144MW of capacity spread across two 72MW, 2-story buildings in Loudon County. It will feature 100% renewable energy, an on-site substation, and closed-loop water cooling systems.
