by Abdulrahman, Age 12 I am not the person some people think I am. I can be thought of as a bad person because I am a Muslim. There are a lot of Muslims around the world. In fact, almost a quarter of the earth’s population is Muslim, most living in the Middle East and North Africa*. In Islam, we do something called fasting. Fasting is basically not eating for a period of time. We often fast in Ramadan. Ramadan is a special month when we fast. We start the fasting at 4:00 am until 8:30 pm.

About half of the panhandlers are homeless, the other half of them are just extremely poor. Some struggle with severe alcohol and drug addictions while some are caught in a cycle: they move from being homeless to having housing but being extremely poor.

The day seemed to be going by so fast! My two best friends and I were almost home from school. A green light lit up the sky as we turned onto Rammy Road. Ryan, with his glasses held together with a band-aid, and Laura, in her hot pink fluffy shirt, saw it too. Their eyes were as big and round as my mom’s Sunday pancakes. The light disappeared as quickly as it came. A flying red saucer took its place, spinning above us. We all ducked, thinking it was going to crash on our heads.
