The Leader’s second annual South County Senior Expo will offer lots of fun activities and useful information. The event is geared toward those 50 and older and will be held from 8 a.m. to noon, Wednesday, May 7, at the Kennedy Recreation Complex, 6050 Wells Road, in south St. Louis County. Admission is free. Attendees also will be treated to free doughnuts and coffee, while supplies last. The event will also include lots of giveaways.

It’s not too late to get your free tickets to the Leader Wedding Fair, set for Sunday, Feb. 2. The 31st annual Wedding Fair will be held from 12:30-3:30 p.m. at the Corpus Christi Event Center at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Imperial. After the free tickets are given away, the remaining tickets will cost $3 in advance or $5 at the door.

The Jefferson County Health Department Board of Trustees recently approved another round of pay raises for many of its employees. The board voted 4-0 Dec. 30 to approve up to $161,244 in performance pay raises. Board member Dennis Diehl was absent from the meeting. Executive Director Steve Sikes stressed that the latest raises were separate from the staff raises approved in October that went into effect Nov. 16 as a result of a monthslong compensation study.

If you’re looking for one-of-a-kind home decor or vintage furniture with a fresh look, Tree of Life Home Decor, 109 E. Main St., in Festus, just may have what you need. Michelle Hohmeier and her mother, Nancy Becker, own the store, which opened in 2019. They refurbish old furniture and sell it, along with home decor and other items. Hohmeier said she currently is wrapping up several furniture refurbishing projects including a small kitchen table and chairs, a hutch and a chest.

Anyone interested in starting a home improvement project may want to check out the second annual West County Home & Garden Expo on Saturday, March 29. The expo will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Greensfelder Recreation Complex at Queeny Park, 550 Weidman Road, in Manchester. The event is presented by the West St. Louis County Chamber of Commerce, and the title sponsor is Ballwin Tree Service, said Lori Kelling, the chamber’s president and CEO. “It is all free and open to the public,” she said.
