On Thursday May 1, approximately 100 people took part in a “May Day Strong” demonstration and march in Hayward. Participants held signs at the corner of Highways 63 and 27 and walked four blocks from that corner to the Sawyer County Courthouse and back as a show of support for Sawyer County Judge Monica Isham and a protest against funding cuts and other recent actions by the Trump administration. There were no speeches, but the Record asked a few of the participants for their comments.

The Sawyer County Deer Advisory Council (CDAC) met April 30 at the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Hayward Service Center to discuss and recommend antlerless deer quotas for the five deer management units (DMUs) encompassing Sawyer County outside the LCO reservation for the fall 2025 hunting seasons.
