The best part of the day is when I can sit down and relax knowing I’ve done everything I needed to. A full day of school, a couple hours of sports practice, and some homework makes me eager to reward myself. It’s tempting to get on my phone and doomscroll, but I always feel much more accomplished, even if I’m still dilly-dallying, by doing a hobby. It took me a long time to find a hobby I truly enjoyed, and I tried quite a few.

Oftentimes I wonder how different my character would be if I hadn’t read the books I read when I was younger. I also think about how differently I would approach decisions I make every day if I hadn’t been able to learn from the same teachers, family members, and friends I’ve been blessed to have. Every book, movie, and person I knew consciously or subconsciously taught me a lesson or moral that has stuck with me to this day. In second grade, I was assigned to Ms. Mori’s reading group.

Last year, I had my first opportunity to write for the Kodiak Daily Mirror. The first topic that came to mind was balancing school work, extracurriculars and social life. I recently reread that article and sympathized with freshman-year me, who at the time had just been introduced to everything she could commit herself to to find a purpose.
