By November 22, 2024A significant decline in government funding through contribution agreements has the Canadian Public Health Association turning to fundraising in order to keep operating after 2025. Project-based funding from the federal government in 2000 accounted for 95 per cent of the organization’s core revenue, but that figure was down to 45 per cent in 2023, according to Ian Culbert, the association’s executive director.

By October 17, 2024A new report from the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) states that an average of 15 per cent of new 2023 bilateral health funding is going to mental health and substance use services, but that number drops to 5.7 per cent when looking at the median of what is being spent by provinces and territories—far below the 30-per-cent figure the federal government has claimed.
