    Veteran educator and former Orlando Pirates Football Club chairman Donald Daniel Dhliwayo, affectionately known as “DD”, has passed away at the age of 98. Dhliwayo, who was originally from Nancefield in Musina, died on 1 May at Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg after spending six weeks in intensive care with pneumonia. He studied teaching at Lemana College and went on to dedicate more than 40 years of his life to education.

    Fear and uncertainty have gripped the Mavasa family from Majosi village, following the disappearance of their eldest son, 32-year-old Kaya Emile, on Monday, 28 April. Kaya, who was reportedly distraught after his girlfriend had left him for another man, left his home in the Sukani Section to collect firewood, carrying a rope — but he never returned. He was last seen wearing a black T-shirt and brown Relay jeans.

    A major setback during the filming of Lubunyu did not stop Venda filmmaker Murena Netshitagana from winning the Best African Film award at the March 2025 World Film Festival in Cannes, France. While shooting Lubunyu, his debut film, during intense load-shedding, a 50kVA generator caught fire, threatening to derail the production. But despite the challenge, the film stood out among many African entries and was officially announced as the winner on 27 April.

The list of well-known former scholars includes famous South Africans such as the late Prof Hudson Ntsanwisi, Judge GSS Maluleke and Prof Muxe Nkondo.
