The Chancellor Jeremy Hunt is expected to announce a new tax on vaping products and tobacco, in a move that could raise around £500million a year by 2028/29 in today’s spring Budget. The new “vaping products levy” is expected to be charged on manufacturers and importers of the liquid in vapes, which are currently only subjected to VAT. It’ll be like tobacco products. The measures would essentially make both vapes and cigarettes more expensive to buy.

The two-day “permission to appeal” hearing described as WikiLeaks founder, Julian Assange’s last opportunity to avoid extradition to the United States has concluded at the Royal Courts of Justice in central London. The judges told the court they would reserve their decision. Hundreds of people have been gathering outside the court for two days in a row, in support of Assange.

More than 95 per cent of UK farmers under the age of 40 say poor mental health is one of the “biggest hidden problems” facing farmers today according to a study conducted by the Farm Safety Foundation. Some 21 farm workers lost their lives in farm accidents in 2022/23 and there were 36 suicides registered in England and Wales by those working in the farming and agricultural industry in 2021 according to the Office of National Statistics.
