AbstractTransitions between dry and wet hydrologic states are the defining characteristic of non-perennial rivers and streams, which constitute the majority of the global river network. Although past work has focused on stream drying characteristics, there has been less focus on how hydrology, ecology and biogeochemistry respond and interact during stream wetting.

1 INTRODUCTION Floodplain wetlands are one of the most variable landscape features on earth, with high productivity and biodiversity, and they play a crucial role in linking rivers, lakes, and land (Chaparro et al., 2018; Knox et al., 2022). Furthermore, several anthropogenic pressures, like reclamation of land and river regulations, have interfered with the natural flow of water between rivers and floodplains in direct or indirect ways (Dong et al., 2021; Zhang, Pan, et al., 2020).

Une partie de nos rivières sont d’ailleurs dites « intermittentes » : de manière récurrente, elles cessent de s’écouler ou s’assèchent complètement.
