As the Vincent Massey Vikings enter a high school softball provincial championship full of unknowns, Jayce Whiteside is certain about one thing. The sophomore pitcher will have plenty of run support. “It takes so much pressure off of a pitcher,” Whiteside said at practice on Tuesday. “I can look at our batting order and I know everyone’s going to have a hit probably. What used to feel like pressure-packed moments on the golf course are now “casual” for Cala Korman. The Killarney native used to battle self-inflicted pressure during tournaments but realizes, for her, a laid-back approach is the way to go. She casually rolled in four birdies, dropping just one shot during the Golf Manitoba match play qualifier, carding a 3-under 68 at Winkler Centennial Golf Club on Saturday. Korman earned the top seed for this weekend’s matches at Elmhurst Golf and Country Club.
